How long have you worked at Scott Pallets? This is my 14th Year

How would you explain your job to people outside of the company? I say I work for a division of Europe’s largest saw mill group, which provides key products that keep the world moving. 

How did you get into your role? I applied for a Health & Safety role at the business nearly 14 years ago, after completing my H&S Nebosh qualification while working for my previous employer. However, I ended up taking an operational position instead.

Walk us through a typical day at work: Pre-starting, I would enjoy decaf coffee and either scrambled or fried egg on sourdough bread. Once starting, I would check in with team members, provide support and direction (where needed),  review outstanding tasks, set a priority plan for the day, review key metrics and be as productive as possible.

What was your first paying job? I worked for my uncle’s building company as a labourer, which developed into becoming multi-skilled in construction. These skills have helped me undertake several improvement projects around my house and garden.  

What do you like to do outside of work? Watching football (Arsenal Fan), playing football (but have to watch the knees), running, fishing and playing golf. I have recently purchased a VW camper, so planning adventures with my 8 y/o son is also something I enjoy doing in my spare time.

Do you have any pets? I have 1 surviving fish in my garden pond called Freddie (Named after my son’s favourite football player at the time of getting the fish)

Are you a sports fan? Who are your favourite teams? Yes – My first love is my local village football team, but I also support Arsenal.

Where do you see yourself progressing within Scott Pallets/and or wider group businesses? I started on my journey within Scott Pallets 14 years ago in operations as a machine supervisor, followed by several other operational roles which gave me key knowledge of our products and capabilities, followed by account management, sales team management and now sales director,r which provides me with a great commercial understanding of the business… Maybe one day I could combine these experiences in a more central role within Scott Pallets or the wider BSW group.
