Name: Jessica Potter
Job Title: Head of Commercial
How long have you worked at Scott Pallets? 4 years
How would you explain your job to people outside of the company? I manage the commercial side of the business, which means I’m responsible for pricing, contracts, customer relationships, and making sure our products and services meet our customers’ needs and business goals. I like to think of my role being the bridge between what the customer wants and what the business needs to deliver.
How did you get into your role? I started my career in finance, working through AAT and CIMA, before moving into broader business management. Over time, I found my passion lay in the commercial side of operations, where I could combine analytics, strategy, and customer engagement. My journey has been a mix of continuous learning and taking opportunities as they came, eventually leading me to Head of Commercial at Scott Pallets.
Walk us through a typical day at work: No two days are quite the same! My mornings often start with reviewing reports and customer escalations, making sure everything is on track. I’ll then spend time on pricing strategies, customer negotiations, and working with different teams like sales, operations, and finance to ensure we’re aligned. A big part of my day is also problem-solving—whether it’s addressing challenges or finding the best solutions to deliver excellence.
What was your first paying job? My first paying job was working in a beauty salon owned by my mum during my student days. It taught me a lot about customer service, resilience, and the value of hard work—skills that have stayed with me ever since!
What do you like to do outside of work? I’m passionate about self-improvement and love reading, hiking, netball, and travelling. I could spend hours diving into books on leadership, psychology, or business strategy. I also enjoy a good hike on Sundays to reset and recharge.
Do you have any pets? Yes, 2 lovely cats Luna and Jade
Are you a sports fan? Yes, I am a football fan
Who are your favourite teams? Manchester City
Where do you see yourself progressing within Scott Pallets / and or wider group businesses? My goal is to continue developing within the group and ultimately step into a Director role. I’m passionate about driving the business forward, mentoring others, and finding innovative ways to deliver value for our customers and the company.
